An web-based information resource for students and teachers on people and the environment www.peopleandplanet.net is free source of independent information on every aspect of the global environment and how it relates to the demands of the earth's growing human population. People & the Planet was launched at the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992 as a fully illustrated global magazine, with sponsorship from the United Nations Population Fund and leading internatonal NGOs including IUCN and WWF. It was re-launched as a leading environmental website in 2000, and now attracts up to 2.5 monthly hits and over 150,000 monthly visitors from 182 countries. Very easily navigated, it covers 16 main thems including population, climate change, renewable energy, food and farming, biodiversity, oceans, mountains and ecotourism. Each has an Overview, Factfiles, News, Features, Books, Films and a Glossary. Fully illustrated, this website includes a free high-resolution Picture Gallery for non-commercial educational use only. www.peopleandplanet.net is published by a UK charity, Planet 21.
