Unlike other modern hives, the top bar hive is easy and inexpensive to build and easy to manage: no other equipment is needed and no storage space is required outside the hive itself. There is no heavy lifting involved, making this method suitable for non-body-builders and people with disabilities. Many women, who were put off 'normal' beekeeping by the complicated equipment and the heavy box-shifting have shown an interest in top bar hives. Most of the information, including the forum, is free of charge.
